Overview
BakerHicks is delivering excellence in engineering, design and project delivery since 1957. We’re looking for a Lead Piping Designer to take real ownership over how that work gets done. This isn’t a role where you follow someone else’s process—you’ll help shape it. You’ll have the freedom to set technical direction, define delivery standards, and lead project coordination across cleanroom, GMP and pharmaceutical facilities. You’ll be the go‑to for piping layout design – a key part of a collaborative, high‑performing team.
Location: York, England, United Kingdom
What You’ll Be Doing
* Take the lead on piping layout design and coordination for complex Life Sciences projects
* Drive quality across 3D design, clash detection, model reviews and delivery planning
* Act as a technical reference point for colleagues and clients
* Support project managers and commercial teams during bids and early-stage planning
* Help improve tools, processes, and ways of working across the piping function
* Collaborate closely with cross-discipline teams to ensure successful delivery
What You Bring
* Proven experience in piping and layout design, ideally in Life Sciences, pharma, or GMP environments
* Strong hands-on skills with Plant 3D (E3D or PDMS a plus)
* Confidence in design coordination and working in multi-disciplinary teams
* A proactive mindset – someone who looks for ways to improve how things are done
* Clear communication skills and a team-focused attitude
* Familiarity with hygienic piping systems and relevant codes
Why This Role Stands Out
You’ll have the space and support to lead — but not be expected to have all the answers from day one.
This is a great opportunity for someone with solid experience in piping design, ready to:
* Step up and lead project delivery
* Influence tools, quality and standards
* Be a key part of a trusted, expert team
* Deliver projects that improve lives — from labs to vaccine production facilities
* Join a business where technical expertise is truly valued
* Work on leading-edge UK Life Sciences projects with spillover into energy, nuclear and more
* Enjoy flexible working, autonomy, and support to keep developing your career
We’re hiring someone ready to lead with purpose and grow with us.
