Job info:
1. Participate in the processing of new applications received for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction, as well as deal with changes of circumstances reports to the service.
2. Make decisions in accordance with Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction legislation, policies and procedures.
3. Handle customer inquiries and correspondence efficiently and accountably while adhering to relevant legislative provisions, council policy, and regulations.
4. Deal with customer enquiries via telephone, email, and written communication.
5. Maintain accurate records and process information within set timescales and procedures.
6. Liaise with other Council staff, the Department of Work and Pensions, and other stakeholders to provide an efficient and effective benefit service.
Essential Requirements:
7. Proficiency in using Capita Academy and NEC Enterprise systems is a must.
8. Sound understanding of Housing Benefits and Council Tax Reduction and relevant legislation built over a minimum of 7 years’ experience of working in a Benefits environment.
9. Reliable, responsible, and self-motivated.
10. Ability to work to clearly defined targets and deadlines.
11. Awareness and understanding of customer needs.
12. Practical experience in an appropriate work environment and the ability to advise others on relevant issues.
13. Clear communication skills with sensitivity and empathy to build trust.
14. Ability to work independently and in a team.
15. Must successfully undertake a basic DBS check
