Grounds and Fabric Maintenance Assistant
Location: Birmingham B66
Role Type: Essential Site Maintenance (Grounds, Gardens, and Fabric)
Salary/Rate: GBP18.25 an hour
We are seeking a proactive and skilled individual to help maintain the facilitys extensive grounds, gardens, and building fabric, ensuring a compliant and safe environment for healthcare delivery.
The Role and Responsibilities:
You will work as part of a multi:disciplinary hard services team, reporting to the Assistant Technical Services Manager, with duties split between proactive maintenance, reactive call:outs, and general site upkeep.

Grounds and Fabric Maintenance: Carry out routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections of the hospital grounds (gardens, civil areas) and building fabric services.

Reactive and PPM: Assist the team by responding to reactive maintenance requests and executing Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) workstreams.

General Repair Work: Undertake minor upgrading, adaptation works, and general building repairs.

Compliance and Safety: Ensure adherence to all safety, legislative, and infection control procedures, including using the correct PPE and operating access equipment and tools safely.

Adverse Weather Response: Respond safely to adverse weather conditions, including gritting and snow clearing.

Flexibility and On:Call: Must be available to participate in the on:call rota and potentially adjust working hours to cover shifts, sickness, and essential weekend work.

Teamwork: Liaise professionally with hospital wards and departments, minimizing disruption during work.
Required Skills and Experience:

Essential: Previous experience working within a maintenance environment.
*
Essential: Strong practical skills and knowledge in civil, grounds and gardens maintenance, and building maintenance/repairs.

Essential: Experience using and maintaining a large variety of gardening, building, and maintenance tools and light machinery.
*
Desirable: Prior experience working in a healthcare maintenance environment is a bonus.
*
Attributes: Friendly, diligent, excellent timekeeping, and ability to work flexibly and take initiative.
