Consultant Psychiatrist - Female Personality Disorders
We are seeking an experienced and ambitious full-time Consultant Psychiatrist to work at Cygnet Hospital Maidstone, providing senior medical cover on our 16-bed personality disorder service for women.
The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician, overseeing and maintaining the care of all ward inpatients as required, and will also be responsible for auditing the medical services rendered at the ward to ensure their quality in accordance with GMC standards and other professional guidelines.
Your expertise will drive life-changing treatment, supported by a Specialty Doctor and a multidisciplinary team including qualified nurses, psychologists, and occupational therapists.
There is an opportunity to progress to Medical Director Level through our management schemes.
Main duties of the job
Cygnet Hospital Maidstone is purpose-built to meet the latest national standards for mental health care within a therapeutic environment. The hospital provides vital services for local patients from Kent.
The hospital is divided into four wards, each offering specialized mental health services. We deliver high-quality care through a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach, focusing on discharge planning from the moment patients arrive.
The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician with overall medical responsibility for patient treatment plans, liaising closely with the multidisciplinary team.
All patients are NHS patients. This role is suitable for those wishing to continue working in the NHS while exploring opportunities in the independent sector.

Main duties and Responsibilities
* Lead high-quality care for patients admitted to Roseacre Ward
* Act as a positive role model with a professional attitude towards patients, families, visitors, and staff
* Take responsibility for patient treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
* Assess referrals and conduct mental state examinations
* Undertake investigations, diagnosis, and treatment
* Conduct ward rounds, reviews, and audits
* Implement risk assessments and clinical governance
* Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and attend hearings
* Coordinate with the Ministry of Justice regarding patient transfers and leave
* Maintain accurate patient records
* Communicate regularly with the Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager
* Engage with patients, relatives, staff, and other stakeholders, maintaining appropriate reports
* Participate in academic meetings and adhere to professional standards for CPD
* Contribute to the on-call rota
