Job Description We are seeking an experienced Head of Commercial / Commercial Director to lead the commercial and contractual management of MLL’s customer and strategic supplier engagements. This role is accountable for protecting and improving contract profitability, ensuring robust commercial governance, and proactively managing commercial risk across the full contract lifecycle—from bid through negotiation, mobilisation, delivery, change control, renewal, and exit. You will act as a trusted commercial adviser to the business, partnering with Sales, Delivery, Finance and Operations to secure high-quality contractual outcomes and ensure contractual obligations, performance mechanisms and remedies are clearly understood and effectively managed. Job Requirements • 5 years’ experience in commercial/contract management, ideally within networking, telecoms or IT managed services. • Demonstrable experience negotiating complex MSAs/SOWs and managing contracts through delivery, change and renewal. • Strong understanding of commercial risk, contract law fundamentals, pricing strategies and margin protection. • Excellent negotiation, communication and senior stakeholder management skills; confident influencing internal and external parties. • Comfortable working under pressure, managing priorities and deadlines with a high degree of autonomy. • Strong attention to detail with proven analytical and problem-solving capability. • Degree or equivalent experience in business, commercial management, law or a related discipline. • Desirable: Familiarity with ITIL/ITSM environments. • Strong understanding of network and IT service contracts, service performance regimes (SLAs/service credits), and subcontract flow-down. Job Responsibilities • Lead the commercial and contractual management of high-value, complex and/or strategically important contracts and programmes. • Own commercial risk management across deals and live contracts, including identification, quantification, and mitigation planning (including back-to-back supplier risk where relevant). • Draft, negotiate and review a wide range of commercial agreements, including MSAs, Statements of Work, framework agreements, NDAs, subcontracts, order forms, and variations. • Provide commercial leadership to bid activities: input to pricing models, commercial assumptions, risk/contingency, and contract mark-up; support negotiation strategy and governance approvals. • Ensure robust contract lifecycle management post-award, including change control, contractual notices, performance mechanisms (e.g., SLAs, service credits), renewals, and dispute avoidance. • Lead commercial discussions relating to contract performance issues, disputes, claims and settlements, working with internal stakeholders and external counsel as appropriate. • Manage supplier commercial relationships, ensuring appropriate flow-down of obligations, clear deliverables, effective governance, and value for money. • Chair or contribute to commercial governance forums as required; ensure deviations from standard terms are escalated and approved in line with delegated authority. • Partner with Project/Service Managers, Finance and Sales to monitor contract performance, financial outcomes and risk exposure, ensuring corrective actions are implemented where needed. • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws, regulations and industry standards impacting IT and managed services contracts (including data protection and security obligations where applicable). • Coach and support stakeholders on commercial best practice, negotiation discipline and contractual compliance. Performance Measures • Improved margin protection and reduced revenue leakage through effective contract terms, change control and claims recovery. • Reduced contract cycle times while maintaining quality and risk discipline. • Improved compliance with commercial governance and contractual obligations. • Reduced commercial disputes/escalations and improved resolution outcomes.
