Job Description
We’re looking for an experienced and inspirational leader to lead the National Environmental Assessment Service (NEAS).
NEAS primarily focuses on enabling the environmental agency to deliver its capital and asset management programmes efficiently, in compliance with environmental legislation, policies, and corporate priorities.
You will manage several strategic portfolios, lead your team through change, and ensure effective day-to-day delivery and prioritization.
We seek an inclusive, collaborative, and driven leader capable of guiding teams through change while supporting a diverse workforce to thrive and deliver high standards.
As an experienced leader, you will have project delivery experience in environmental legislation, policies, and strategies. You should have a proven track record of working closely with senior leaders, industry experts, delivery partners, and stakeholders, achieving mutually beneficial outcomes at a strategic level.
Principal Accountabilities
* Lead a team of approximately 45 staff with expertise in environmental legislation, heritage, carbon, landscape architecture, and biodiversity net gain.
* Manage proactive stakeholder relationships to build trust, foster collaboration, and create opportunities.
* Set strategic priorities aligned with broader EA strategy and motivate your team to deliver efficiently.
* Develop and embed a culture of continuous improvement to adapt to changing needs.
* Promote a culture of psychological safety that empowers decision-making and innovation.
* Lead planning and delivery of change initiatives within your team and across relevant business relationships.
The Team
You will join the Environmental Assurance & Reservoir Regulation (EARR) Department within the Flood & Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Directorate.
NEAS is a nationally dispersed team of over 140 passionate, experienced, and skilled professionals. Our focus is on navigating environmental complexities in our strategies and projects.
You will collaborate closely with two other managers, ensuring unified leadership.
Experience/Skills Required
* Significant experience in project delivery, environmental legislation, policy, or related fields.
* Leadership experience in technical teams, translating strategy into operational outcomes.
* Proven ability to foster high-performance team culture, personal accountability, and psychological safety.
* Innovative thinking with a focus on collaboration and data utilization.
* Ability to make risk-based decisions quickly, removing barriers to delivery.
* Comfort operating in uncertainty and communicating complex issues clearly to senior stakeholders.
* Skill in building consensus and influencing internal and external senior stakeholders.
