Job Description
Are you a Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer with a passion for technical excellence and leadership? We are recruiting for a Head of Civil / Structural Engineering to take ownership of engineering quality and performance across a portfolio of high-impact projects in the construction and process industries.
In this pivotal role, you will be accountable for delivering safe, code-compliant designs on time and within scope, while also promoting cost efficiency and structural optimisation. Reporting to the Group Engineering Director, you will lead a team of engineers across multiple sites, overseeing performance, mentoring talent, and driving a culture of continuous improvement. Collaboration with other technical leaders will be key, ensuring alignment across departments and project delivery teams.
This role involves managing all aspects of the civil and structural engineering function, including the development and implementation of engineering tools and processes. You will be expected to approve calculations and analytical models, support internal checking procedures, and contribute to project design reviews. You will also play a key part in client meetings, site and condition surveys, and post-project evaluations to ensure lessons learned are captured and applied.
To be successful, you’ll need a BEng (Hons) in Civil or Structural Engineering and be a Chartered Engineer (CEng), ideally with ICE or IStructE. You should bring extensive experience in civil or structural engineering roles, a strong grasp of industry standards, and proficiency in structural analysis software such as STAAD Pro or TEKLA Structures. Your ability to interpret site investigation reports, manage complex load cases, and lead teams in a high-pressure environment will be critical. A clear communicator and collaborator, you'll thrive in a role that balances strategic thinking with hands-on technical oversight.
In return, you’ll join a progressive organisation that values high standards, personal development, and engineering innovation. You’ll have access to training opportunities, leadership development initiatives, and a supportive environment that fosters professional growth.
