Position Overview
A position exists for an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Engineering, to work on Physics-based Bayesian Inference for Flow-MRI. The post holder will be located in Central Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and contribute to the objectives of the research project that is funding this position.
* Contribute actively to research discussions and technical development within the host research group.
* Meet regularly (typically weekly) in person with the host research group.
* Provide research leadership to less‑experienced colleagues within the host research group.
* Write or contribute to research publications with the host research group.
* Present the outcomes of this research at conferences.
* Assess, interpret, and evaluate the outcomes of this research.
* Identify sources of funding and contribute to the process of securing funds.
* Work with senior group members to plan the research activities of postgraduate research students.
* Provide research supervision to postgraduate research students within the host research group.
* Meet regularly (typically weekly) in person with postgraduate research students to discuss their research.
* Collaborate within and outside Cambridge to achieve the objectives of the research project that is funding this position.
* Plan, coordinate, and implement aspects of the research project that is funding this position.
* Manage computational resources to ensure that effective use is made of them.
* Mentor colleagues with less experience and advise on personal development.
* Coach and support colleagues in developing their research techniques.
Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience
* Hold a PhD in Engineering or Applied Maths.
* Specialist knowledge in finite element methods for solving the Navier¿Stokes equations; shape optimisation with finite element methods; data assimilation with Bayesian inference into finite element models; reconstruction of phase contrast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) from wavenumber space.
* Specialist skills in functional analysis, numerical analysis, coding with Python.
* Good spoken and written English.
* Demonstrated ability to work with other researchers and students.
* Experience in post‑doctoral research, applying for own funding, managing own research project, managing own workload, co‑supervising PhD students.
* A minimum of four strong scholarly journal publications.
Salary Range
Assistant Research Professor: £47,389 – £59,966 per annum.
Term
Fixed‑term: funds for this post are available for 18 months in the first instance.
