W e are looking for a motivated and detail orientated Finance Assistant to join our Town Council team on a 12-month fixed-term basis. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in supporting the smooth and effective operation of our financial services. Reporting to the Chief Finance Officer, you will provide comprehensive financial, administrative, and clerical support across a wide range of activities, helping ensure strong financial management, compliance and reporting. Key Responsibilities Financial Processing & Administration Maintai n purchase and sale ledgers, including processing invoices and monitoring outstanding payments Process payments (including BACS) accurately and on time Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies Manage petty cash and support banking and reconciliations Financial Management Support Assist with budget preparation, monitoring and reporting Support month-end and year-end processes Maintain accurate financial records and contribute to financial reporting Payroll & Payments Support procurement processes and maintain accurate records Assist with monitoring contracts such as utilities and services Governance & Compliance Ensure adherence to financial regulations and internal controls Assist with audit preparation and information requests Addit ional Responsibilities Support grand administration, asset register maintenance and insurance processes Maintain financial systems and produce reports Provide guidance to colleagues and work collaboratively with stakeholders Essential Criteria AAT Level 4 or equivalent experience Experience in finance, accounting or bookkeeping Strong understanding of financial processes (invoicing, reconciliations, payments) Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines Desirable Criteria Experience within local government or public sector finance Knowledge of payroll, procurement, or grant administration Benefits: Competitive Salary Cycle to Work and Techschemes: Get discounts off Bicycles, Bicycle accessories, Tech, Gadgets and much more! 25 Days Annual Leave in addition to Public and Bank Holidays (pro rata).
