Offer description

Job Description

PAY AWARD PENDING.

This is a term-time post; the salary will be pro-rata'd to the hours worked.

The post is fixed term until 26th June 2026.

Work Pattern: Monday to Friday, 8.30am - 4.00pm (30 minutes unpaid break).

The Scottish Government emphasizes that children must have access to highly qualified staff with expertise in early childhood learning and development, especially for children facing disadvantages. The role aims to provide establishments with an additional graduate—either a qualified teacher or a graduate-level practitioner—to enhance early learning and childcare quality.

This supernumerary role is not included in the staffing ratios of ELCCs. To support the Raising Attainment Delivery Plan, post holders are expected to influence practice, work with small groups, provide one-to-one support focusing on literacy, numeracy, and health and wellbeing.

The role involves planning engaging learning experiences, observing and responding to children's needs, and assessing their progress to ensure positive outcomes.

This is an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic individuals to join during a period of development and expansion within the Early Years Sector.

If you possess the skills and experience to support high-quality early learning and close the attainment gap, we encourage your application.

Requirements

This role is regulated under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2020; membership with the PVG scheme is essential. Further details can be found here. Preferred applicants will need to join or update their PVG scheme before a formal offer is made.

Responsibilities

This employment is excepted from section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders (Exceptions) Order 1975. Applicants must disclose all convictions, including spent ones, as failure to do so could lead to dismissal or disciplinary action.

The Individual

West Dunbartonshire Council offers flexible working arrangements and benefits including:

* Access to the Local Government pension scheme (LGPS) with at least 19.3% employer contribution
* A minimum of 25 days annual leave, increasing to 35 days, plus 8 public holidays
* Access to wellbeing support, including occupational health and counselling

We invite you to apply by sharing your experience and explaining why you're suitable for this role. For more about West Dunbartonshire Council, visit here.
