Lead Quantity Surveyor

Advance TRS is supporting a well-established multi-utility contractor in their search for an experienced Lead Quantity Surveyor to manage the commercial delivery of multi-utility infrastructure projects.
This is a key role responsible for ensuring projects are delivered within budget, on programme, and in line with contractual and regulatory requirements.
About the Role
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will take ownership of the commercial performance of multiple projects, providing financial control, contractual management, and commercial insight to support successful project delivery.
You will also play an important role in mentoring junior team members and maintaining strong working relationships with both internal teams and external clients.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and manage cost estimates, budgets, and financial reports, including weekly and monthly project P&L
Monitor project costs to ensure works are delivered on budget and on schedule
Administer contracts, including negotiating variations, securing client approvals, and ensuring timely payment in collaboration with credit control
Work closely with project teams, engineers, and clients to ensure specifications, safety, and quality standards are met
Support design and estimating teams with supplier and subcontractor pricing for non-standard works
Conduct site visits to review progress, resolve commercial or contractual issues, and ensure compliance
Analyse project performance against margin expectations and address discrepancies with operations teams
Provide commercial risk analysis and advice to support informed business decisions
Mentor and support Assistant and Trainee Quantity Surveyors
Build and maintain strong client relationships
✅ What We're Looking For
Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the utilities, infrastructure, or construction sector
Strong knowledge of UK construction and utility industry standards and regulations
Good understanding of contract law, procurement procedures, and financial management
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (intermediate level minimum)
Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Strong organisational skills and high attention to detail
Knowledge of utility infrastructure project delivery and associated challenges
Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or similar
Professional membership (e.g., RICS, CIOB) advantageous but not essential
Full UK Driving Licence
