Test Engineer (Manual + Automation, Transformation focus) | Remote first with monthly travel to Bedford

The Role
This role sits within a cross-functional Scrum team responsible for consolidating multiple legacy platforms (Zendesk and Dynamics) into a single D365 environment.
You will act as the dedicated Test Engineer within the team, ensuring quality is embedded throughout the delivery lifecycle. From shaping requirements and defining testability through to execution and defect management, you will play a key role in driving high standards across the programme.
A key part of the role is evolving the team’s automation capability. You’ll be working with Playwright to build out automated test coverage, while still remaining hands‑on with manual testing where it adds the most value. This is a role for someone who enjoys both, or is looking to move further into automation without losing touch with delivery.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Owning QA and testing activities within a Scrum team, balancing manual and automated testing
* Evaluating requirements and backlog items to ensure they are testable and complete
* Designing and executing both functional and non‑functional testing strategies
* Building and expanding Playwright-based automation and regression packs
* Supporting defect triage and prioritisation within the team
* Working closely with engineers, product and stakeholders to improve delivery quality
* Contributing to wider QA practices and supporting continuous improvement
Your Experience
We’re looking for someone comfortable operating as the sole QA presence in a team, with the ability to balance hands‑on delivery with growing automation capability.
* Experience across both manual and automation testing
* Hands‑on experience or exposure to Playwright (or similar modern automation tools)
* Ability to design, script and execute automated tests
* Experience working within Agile / Scrum environments
* Proficiency in at least one language such as Python or Java
* Strong communication skills across technical and non‑technical stakeholders
* Solid understanding of functional and non‑functional testing
Nice to Have
* Experience working with Dynamics 365 or Zendesk environments
* Exposure to React‑based applications
* Experience building or contributing to automation frameworks
