We are seeking a committed and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our Intensive Special Needs Program. This position reports to the classroom teacher and CCC Program Director and plays a critical hands-on role supporting individualized instruction, communication access, personal care, and classroom operations for students with complex needs.

Your Impact

As a Classroom Teaching Assistant, you’ll support students ages 3–22 in a structured and inclusive classroom, assisting with daily lessons, personal care, transitions, and behavioral supports. You’ll work alongside educators, specialists, and therapists to implement adapted instruction and maintain a safe, engaging environment for student learning and growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Support teacher-developed lessons aligned with student IEPs and curriculum frameworks
• Deliver 1:1 and small group instruction using AAC, visual supports, and adaptive tools
• Reinforce behavior support plans and apply de-escalation strategies under supervision
• Assist with data collection related to IEPs, behavior plans, and progress monitoring
• Provide hands-on support with daily living skills, including toileting, hygiene, and feeding (oral and g-tube)
• Maintain a clean, structured, and organized classroom environment
• Assist with physical transfers, positioning, and equipment use as needed
• Monitor student safety and apply trained intervention strategies (e.g., Safety-Care)
• Prepare instructional materials and support classroom documentation
• Support structured transitions, playground supervision, and community outings
• Participate in team meetings, required trainings, and school-wide initiatives

What We’re Looking For

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in education, special education, psychology, or related field preferred
• 1–3 years of experience in a classroom or special education setting strongly preferred
• Experience with assistive technology, behavior management, and/or communication supports
• Willingness to learn and use American Sign Language (ASL); ASL classes provided
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team
• Physical ability to lift 40+ lbs., assist with mobility, and engage in active student support
• Ability to remain calm, flexible, and responsive in a fast-paced learning environment

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This position requires frequent standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, and quick transitions to assist students. Candidates must be able to lift 40 lbs independently and support transfers for students weighing 80+ lbs with team-based support. Duties include feeding (including g-tube), hygiene, mobility support, playground supervision, and emergency responses. Work occurs in both classroom and outdoor environments and may involve operating school vehicles for community-based instruction.

Required Training & Development

• Completion of Safety-Care Crisis Prevention Training
• Participation in all DESE-required training and annual professional development
• Enrollment in ASL classes offered by CCCBSD to support our language access standards
• Additional training opportunities to support instructional, behavioral, and communication strategies

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of all required background checks, including Massachusetts CORI and SAFIS fingerprinting, in accordance with state regulations.
