Purpose of the Role
The HR Lead is responsible for overseeing and developing the organisation's HR function, ensuring robust, legally compliant and
effective people processes across the charity.
Reporting to the Head of Culture, Communication & Engagement, the HR Lead will act as the organisation's employment law specialist
and lead on employee relations, policy development, and HR systems.
This is an autonomous role requiring strong generalist HR knowledge, confidence in advising managers, and the ability to design
practical processes that support managers and improve organisational culture.
This role is part time 18 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
Employment Law & Employee Relations
Act as the organisation's lead advisor on UK employment law and legislative changes.
Lead on complex employee relations matters including disciplinaries, grievances, absence management, flexible working and
redundancy.
Support and coach managers to manage performance and attendance effectively.
Ensure safe recruitment practices and compliance with DBS and safeguarding requirements.
Policy & Process Development
Review, update and develop HR policies to ensure compliance and best practice.
Design and implement practical HR systems and processes that are efficient and user-friendly.
Identify areas for improvement in people management practices and make clear recommendations.
Workforce Planning, Rotas & Leave
Provide oversight and guidance on annual leave management and absence trends.
Monitor workforce data to identify trends and support managers to address issues proactively.
Ensure fair and consistent application of working arrangements across teams.
HR Systems & Data
Oversee the effective use of the HR system (Breathe), ensuring data accuracy and reporting capability.
Produce regular reports on headcount, absence, turnover and other key HR metrics.
Ensure employee records are maintained in line with GDPR and legal requirements.
Leadership & Culture
Line manage the HR Administrator.
Contribute to the development of a positive, inclusive and values-led culture.
Work collaboratively with the Head of Culture, Communication & Engagement to strengthen people practices across the
organisation.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
Has strong generalist HR experience, including managing complex employee relations cases.
Has up-to-date knowledge of UK employment law and confidence applying it in practice.
Is confident working independently and managing their own workload.
Can design and improve systems rather than simply maintain them.
Is pragmatic, solution-focussed and able to influence managers constructively.
Understands the importance of culture in a values-led charity environment.
Qualifications
CIPD Level 5 (or equivalent experience) essential.
