Job Description Job Title : Contentious Probate Litigator Location : Darlington, County Durham Salary : £45,000 – £60,000 per annum (dependent on experience) Job Type: Full-time, Permanent Exciting Opportunity with a Thriving Regional Firm – Contentious Probate Focus Our client, a well-established and forward-thinking law firm with a strong presence across the North East, is seeking an experienced Litigator to join their busy Contentious Probate Team in Darlington. This is an excellent opportunity for a solicitor or legal executive with a solid background in dispute resolution, particularly in contested wills, inheritance disputes, trust litigation, and related estate matters. The team is experiencing high demand and this role offers a high-quality caseload and the chance to grow within a specialist area of litigation. Key Responsibilities: Managing a varied caseload of contentious probate matters including challenges to wills, Inheritance Act claims, executor disputes, and trust disagreements Advising clients with sensitivity and professionalism during often emotional circumstances Drafting court documents, correspondence, and settlement agreements Representing clients in negotiations and liaising with counsel when required Supporting business development and contributing to the continued growth of the department The Ideal Candidate Will Have: A minimum of 3 years’ PQE in litigation, with demonstrable experience in contentious probate or private client disputes A strong grounding in civil procedure and relevant probate legislation The ability to handle cases with empathy, tact, and excellent communication Confidence working independently and as part of a close-knit team A proactive approach to file management and client care What’s on Offer: Competitive salary: £45,000 – £60,000 DOE A busy and growing specialist team with excellent support and resources A modern and well-located office in the centre of Darlington Flexible and hybrid working options A friendly and supportive working culture with genuine progression opportunities This role would suit an ambitious litigator looking to develop their expertise in contentious probate within a well-established firm that places strong emphasis on client service and professional development.
