Rate of Pay: £18.82 - £24.65 per hour
Summary:
The Workshop Shift Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Council's vehicle maintenance workshop, ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of scheduled maintenance, unscheduled repairs, MOT testing, inspections, and compliance activities across the fleet.
Responsibilities:
* Manage the daily operations of the workshop, ensuring all maintenance, repairs, inspections, and MOT testing activities are completed efficiently and to required standards.
* Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, Road Transport Law, Vehicle Operator Services Agency (VOSA) requirements, and the Council's Operating Licence obligations.
* Lead, motivate, and manage a team of approximately 14 operational staff, ensuring effective resource allocation and workforce performance.
* Oversee the timely completion of planned maintenance, unscheduled repairs, vehicle inspections, and MOT testing programmes.
* Manage a service budget of approximately £750,000, ensuring financial targets, efficiencies, and income generation objectives are achieved.
* Develop, implement, and monitor workshop policies, procedures, and safe systems of work to support operational excellence.
Qualification:
* GCSE Grade A*-C (9-4) in English and Maths (or equivalent).
* Vehicle Technician qualification (or equivalent) or extensive demonstrable experience managing a vehicle workshop.
* IOSH qualification or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
Essentials:
* Significant experience managing a vehicle workshop, fleet maintenance facility, or garage operation.
* Proven leadership experience managing operational teams and allocating resources effectively.
* Strong customer service and stakeholder management skills.
* Extensive experience managing budgets, income generation, and commercial services.
* Demonstrable experience in performance management and service improvement.
