Position Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Band 4 Assistant Theatre Practitioner (ATP) to join the Ophthalmology Peri-operative team at the National Treatment Centre - Highland (NTC).
This position is open to qualified ATPs but can also be offered as a training post, primarily at NTC- Highland. Training will include attendance at NHS Scotland Academy (Glasgow) and online coursework, with all costs funded by NTC- Highland. The course is expected to start in January 2026, with the post commencing upon completion of recruitment and disclosure processes.
About the NTC-H
The NTC-H is a new purpose-built centre providing care for Ophthalmology and Orthopaedic patients, located at the City’s University Campus. It features 5 theatres, a 24-bed ward, and a dedicated Ophthalmology Outpatient Department.
There are 3 dedicated Ophthalmology theatres specializing in retinal, glaucoma, oculoplastic, and cataract surgeries. This role supports high-volume cataract lists and offers opportunities to learn other ophthalmology disciplines.
Role Responsibilities
In addition to circulating duties, successful applicants will perform scrub roles, including:
1. Scrubbing, gloving, gowning, and setting up equipment and instrument trays.
2. Draping patients and handling instruments.
3. Anticipating surgeons’ needs, managing counts, documenting procedures, and handing over to ward/recovery staff.
Visits to the department are encouraged for informal inquiries.
