Mechanical Design Engineer
About the Job:
Working within a design and manufacturing business operating across four successful brands, the Mechanical Design Engineer will play a key role in designing new products and bespoke POS (Point of Sale) solutions for one of our core brands.
You will be part of a small but dedicated design team, contributing to the full New Product Development (NPD) cycle and supporting client-specific POS projects. This is a hands-on role, involving not only CAD design but also prototyping, assisting with planning, and supporting the production process to ensure concepts are efficiently brought to life.
Working with materials such as wood, plastics, metals, and elements of electronics, you will design and engineer high-quality POS solutions for clients, alongside contributing to the creation and improvement of standard products sold through our group of e-commerce websites.
Key Responsibilities:
* Produce concept designs, 3D models, and fabrication-ready technical drawings using CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
* Generate accurate flat panel files for CNC machining.
* Communicate effectively with internal teams, suppliers, and clients to support smooth project delivery.
* Participate in hands-on prototyping and assist with final assembly of products.
* Maintain and update the existing range of standard products.
* Create and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs) within the internal MRP system.
Ideal Candidate Attributes:
* HNC / HND / BTEC / NVQ / Degree in Mechanical Design Engineering or equivalent.
* Minimum 1 year of experience in a Design or CAD-focused role.
* Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks ideal), producing assemblies, models, and production-ready drawings.
* Knowledge of sheet material manufacturing—including acrylic, wood/MDF, and metalwork.
* Basic graphic design knowledge (desirable).
* Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
* Ability to work independently on project tasks as well as collaboratively within a small team.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
