Masters & PhD Researcher (AI Training)

What if your years of advanced research could directly shape how the world's most powerful AI systems think, reason, and solve problems? We're looking for Masters and PhD researchers to bring their deep domain expertise to some of the most intellectually challenging work in AI today — designing complex problems, stress‑testing AI reasoning, and helping push the frontier of what AI can do.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for researchers who want to do meaningful, high‑caliber work on their own schedule. If you've spent years mastering a technical field and want to put that expertise to use beyond the lab or classroom, this is the opportunity.

* Organization: Alignerr
* Type: Hourly Contract
* Location: Remote
* Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You’ll Do

* Design, develop, and solve advanced multi‑disciplinary problems that challenge and improve AI reasoning capabilities
* Apply your research expertise to create complex, rigorous problem statements with real‑world relevance
* Review and evaluate AI outputs for academic rigor, logical soundness, and depth
* Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and domain experts across leading research labs
* Ensure clarity, precision, and intellectual integrity across all deliverables
* Work independently on task‑based assignments fully on your own schedule

Who You Are

* Holds a Master's or PhD in a STEM or highly technical field from a top university
* Has a strong track record in research, publications, or complex technical project work
* Thinks rigorously—you’re comfortable with ambiguity and know how to structure hard problems
* Communicates with exceptional clarity in writing—you can make complex ideas accessible without sacrificing accuracy
* Detail‑oriented and self‑directed, with the discipline to maintain high standards independently
* Based in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, or New Zealand

Nice to Have

* Prior experience with data annotation, data quality evaluation, or AI evaluation systems
* Proficiency in Python, R, or other research‑oriented programming languages
* Experience working across disciplines or in collaborative research environments
* Familiarity with AI tools, language models, or machine learning concepts

Why Join Us

* Work directly with the world's leading AI research labs on genuinely frontier problems
* Fully remote and flexible — structure your work around your life, not the other way around
* Freelance autonomy with the intellectual depth of serious research work
* Make a tangible impact on how AI systems reason across science, technology, and beyond
* Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
