Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 8a Haematology Operational Manager role within the Haematology department at the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.
The successful candidate will lead and support a strong Haematology senior team across all hospitals within the health board, delivering a high quality, first‑class Haematology service to our users.
Key responsibilities include day‑to‑day operational management of the hospitals’ haematology departments, working closely with the Haematology Service Manager, blood transfusion team, CTM quality team and other operational managers. The role also requires staff appraisals, HR duties, training and quality leadership, and the ability to travel between sites as required.
Key Requirements
* HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with evidence of ongoing CPD.
* BSc or equivalent in Biomedical Science and an MSc or equivalent.
* Experience as a Senior Biomedical Scientist (Band 7 or above) in the NHS, with significant post‑registration experience in haematology.
* Experience in a supervisory position at Band 7 or above.
* Proficiency in basic office IT programmes (word processing, spreadsheets).
* Experience with quality management procedures and basic procurement or project management is desirable.
* Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work under pressure, and adaptable to manage conflicting demands.
* Good communication and organisational skills for staff appraisals and workforce duties.
* Commitment to providing a high quality service and to IS O 15189:2022 accreditation.
* Will need to travel between sites in a timely manner.
Qualifications – Essential
* HCPC registration with evidence of ongoing CPD.
* BSc or equivalent in Biomedical Science.
* MSc or equivalent.
* Management qualification.

* Higher Specialist Diploma.
* Fellowship of IBMS.
* Training qualification.
* Quality Management Qualification.
Experience – Essential
* Significant post‑registration experience in haematology within the NHS.
* Experience in a supervisory role at Band 7 or above.
* Experience of basic office IT programmes (word processing, spreadsheets).
* Experience of quality management procedures.

* Experience of procurement projects or other project management.
