Job Description

Objective

To provide a variety of non-medical services that allow clients to remain in their own homes and to enhance the quality of their life. To help clients and their families meet the challenges of ageing with dignity, pride, care and compassion.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Reflect the core values of Home Instead franchise
2. Contribute to a positive living environment to enhance a client’s quality of life
3. Document daily activities and report any significant changes in a client’s needs or living conditions
4. Maintain regular communication with line manager and office staff

Companionship Services which could include, but are not limited to:

5. Offer companionship and conversation
6. Monitor diet and eating
7. Stimulate and encourage through a variety of activities (for example clothing selection, hobbies and crafts)
8. Arrange and provide reminders for appointments, activities and outings
9. Help with travel arrangements
10. Organise mail and write letters
11. Assist with walking (lending an arm to steady)
12. Accompany to appointments and social events (for example visiting friends or family, lunch, club meetings)

Home Help Services which could include, but are not limited to:

13. Run errands / collect prescriptions etc
14. Performing light housekeeping tasks (dusting, vacuuming, making beds, changing linens, cleaning bathrooms, kitchens, washing and ironing, taking out rubbish, caring for houseplants etc.)
15. Organise and tidy cupboards and check food expiry dates
16. Plan prepare and tidy away meals
17. Answer the door
18. Assist with pet care
19. Supervise home maintenance
20. Help with shopping and oversee home deliveries

Personal Care Services which could include, but are not limited to:

21. Provide medication reminders
22. Help with bathing, dressing and grooming
23. Help with continence care
24. Assist to eat and drink
25. Provide Dementia / Alzheimer care
26. Provide respite / convalescence care
27. Assist with morning/wake up and or evening/tuck in

Secondary Responsibilities

28. Participate in company sponsored training and social events including Care Professional meetings
29. Report hours according to office policy & communicate changes in availability in a timely manner
30. Participate in PEAQ engagement Survey
31. Document client information in Client and Life Journal
32. May require you to run errands and provide incidental transportation for a client using your vehicle or a client’s vehicle
33. Perform other reasonable duties as assigned

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

34. Ability to treat and care for clients and their property with dignity and respect
35. Ability to adapt to various living environments and locations
36. Ability to listen, communicate clearly and build relationships with clients and their families in a friendly and pleasant manner
37. Willingness to work and communicate professionally with Home Instead office teams and other social and health care professionals
38. Respect for people with different backgrounds and beliefs to your own and who may have a range of medical conditions. Commitment to non-discriminatory care practice
39. Willing to seek guidance when needed and follow instructions
40. Excellent timekeeper who is organised and reliable
41. Ability to adapt to change quickly and make common sense decisions at short notice
42. Good hygiene practice, including personal hygiene and a smart appearance
43. Good level of stamina and fitness to meet the physical demands of the job
44. This role will require you to obtain an Enhanced Disclosure from the relevant body
45. Class 1 business insurance (if using own car for business purposes)
