Main duties of the job
* a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
* Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems
* Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
* Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
* Providing counselling and health education
* Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate
* Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
* Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
* Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate

Job responsibilities
Job summary:
Thepost-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needsin a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for allregistered and temporary patients.
Clinical responsibilities:
* In accordancewith the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will makehim/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgeryconsultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients athome, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries,paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
* Makingprofessional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems,whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers withinthe organisation
* Assessing thehealth care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosedproblems

* In consultationwith patients and in line with current practice disease managementprotocols, developing care plans for health
* Providingcounselling and health education
* Admitting ordischarging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other careproviders as appropriate

Providing advice onthe correct and safe management of the specimens process including collection,labelling, handling, use of correct and clean containers, storage and transportarrangements
Correct personal useof Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensuring correct use of PPE byothers, advising on appropriate circumstances for use by clinicians, staff andpatients.

Identifying the risksinvolved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way thatmanages those risks across clinical and patient process

Monitoring practicefacilities and equipment in relation to infection control, ensuring that properuse is made of hand cleansing facilities, wipes etc, and that these aresufficient to ensure a good clinical working environment. Lack of facilities tobe escalated as appropriate to the responsible manager

Maintenance of own clean working environment
Using appropriateinfection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy, clean andsterile, and safe way, free from hazards. Initiation of remedial / correctiveaction where needed or escalation to responsible management
Actively identifying,reporting, and correction of health and safety hazards and infection hazardsimmediately when recognised
Keeping own work areasand general / patient areas generally clean, sterile, identifying issues andhazards / risks in relation to other work areas within the business, andassuming responsibility in the maintenance of general standards of cleanlinessacross the business in consultation (where appropriate) with responsiblemanagers
Undertaking periodicinfection control training (minimum twice annually)
Correct waste andinstrument management including handling, segregation, and container use
Maintenance of sterileenvironments

Person Specification
Qualifications
* GMC full registration with a licence to practise
Experience
* -Experience of working independently, with a maximum of 2 years experience post MRCGP
* - Experience of working in UK General Practice.
* -Experience of working with diverse and vulnerable groups, including use of interpreters.
