Job Description

Reading Scientific Services Ltd (RSSL) is a leading contract research organisation (CRO) providing scientific analysis, research, consultancy and training to the food, pharmaceutical and consumer goods sectors, and supporting Mondelez International. RSSL is recognised for excellence in client service and innovation.


Purpose

The Operations Lab Support (OLS) department manages all samples received across RSSL sites and supports laboratory operations. Responsibilities include sample administration, LIMS entry, sub‑sampling, subcontracting, lab housekeeping, inventory control, calibration, waste disposal and data archiving. The role ensures samples are processed accurately and efficiently while maintaining safety and quality standards.


Primary Accountabilities / Responsibilities


Technical

* Log samples into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) accurately and on time.
* Assist with sub‑aliquoting of samples for internal and external customers and subcontractors, following all SOPs.
* Perform routine checks and calibrations in the laboratory.
* Manage inventory of samples, reagents and consumables.
* Conduct lab administration, glass washing and housekeeping duties.
* Handle disposal and archiving processes.
* Use generic and specific software packages, including LIMS and Q‑Pulse.
* Work across different laboratories and sites as required.


Communication & Influence

* Collaborate with the team to identify and implement process improvements.
* Liaise with clients, commercial teams, site administration and line management for effective communication.
* Ensure information in LIMS is accurate and represent RSSL professionally to internal and external customers.


QEHS

* Adhere to COSHHs, risk assessments and SOPs, maintaining high safety and quality standards.
* Control client documentation, ensuring current versions are supplied to analysts.
* Complete assigned quality actions promptly.
* Maintain a clean and safe working environment in compliance with GMP, UKAS and Home Office regulations.

Requirements

* Education at A‑level/HNC level or equivalent industry experience to fulfil role requirements.
* Basic understanding of laboratory equipment (preferred).
* Accountable, honest, hardworking and efficient in a team environment.
* Flexible and adaptable to meet customer and business needs.
* Meticulous attention to detail and ability to follow written instructions.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Self‑motivated, enthusiastic and quick to learn.
* Well organised and able to handle multiple concurrent tasks.
* Computer literate in standard MS Office applications.
* Experience in an administrative role and in a regulated environment.
* Fluency in English (written and spoken).
