Band 4 Dental Nurse-Oral Surgery/Oral Medicine/Unscheduled Dental Care

Are you looking for a new exciting career within the NHS? Are you patient focussed and want to deliver high quality dental care?

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and hard working dental nurse to join the Ground Floor Dental Nursing team covering Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine and Emergency Dental Care.

The post holder will be expected to support the evening and weekend clinical activity on a rota basis. Part time applications are invited.

Position Available:

0.8WTE (30hrs p/w) Band 4 Dental Nurse

12 month fixed term maternity cover

Hours to be worked: Monday - Saturday (8am - 8pm) - days to be confirmed, however, to work flexibly as required to meet service need.

Based at Birmingham Dental Hospital

To work flexibly within a dental team providing high quality care to a wide spectrum of patients across localities within the Dental Service, based at Birmingham Dental Hospital (BDH) and Community Dental Services (CDS) including Mobile Clinics and/or additional external sites as required.

Dental Nurses will be expected to work flexibly across the Dental Hospital and within our outreach sites.

To provide chair side assistance to clinicians within the dental service.

To carry out clerical and administrative duties to ensure efficient operation of the clinic/department.


Main duties of the job

Maintain a high standard of patient care and confidentiality within all dental clinics throughout the service.

To prepare and monitor patients for and during their dental treatment, providing pre and post operative instructions as required.

To undertake the general care of the surgery including dental equipment/instruments (medical devices) and arrange any necessary repairs as required.

To ensure medical emergency drugs and equipment are available and up to date.

To provide chair side assistance and postoperative instructions during general anaesthetic and exodontia sessions as required.

To provide oral health education to patients as required by the clinician.

To assist the Senior Dental Nurse in the smooth running of the Dental service.

To support and assist clinicians including all student disciplines.

To support and supervise all apprentice nurses, undergraduate groups.

Person Specification


Education

* Professional Registration with General Dental Council
* Other Dental Nursing post qualifications


Experience

* Relevant experience working as part of a dental team, e.g. General Practice, Hospital, other Primary Dental Services / Community Dental Services experiencing chair side duties
* Experience of working with children, elderly, medically compromised patients, and patients with learning disabilities
* Oral Surgery Experience


Skills/Knowledge

* To interact professionally with individuals
* Understand the principles of confidentiality
* Up to date knowledge in all areas of dental nursing
* Ability to work under pressure and on own initiative
* Organisational skills
* Good working knowledge of cross infection procedures
* Computer Skills
* Knowledge of dental procedures
* Other Languages


Personal Qualities

* Flexibility
* Ability to deal with emotional & challenging situations
* Ability to meet travel requirements of the role

£27,485 to £30,162 a year per annum (pro rata)
