We are looking for a full time groom to join our small team caring for homebred dressage horses, showjumpers and eventers. Passion and dedication to detailed horse care is a must. All on site were born with us - we do not buy and sell. The successful candidate will watch each horse being born, to their first outing, to their first international competition. We believe staff invested in this journey will get infinitely more out of this position. With 3 vets in the immediate family everything we do is based on the latest sports science, even down to the most basic jobs, so this position would suit someone with an interest in this topic. We also run events and facility hire on site so we are able to run our horses in a non-profit capacity, meaning our yard and horses are on public display at all times. Therefore someone with an appreciation of a clean and organised yard with well turned out horses is important.Role mainly involves day-to-day care of our horses - they all have very different personalities and are treated as individuals. It's the day-to-day that dictates how they perform and, as a small yard, we have the advantage of having more time to spend focusing on this aspect. Each horse progresses in their preferred discipline at their own pace, but we have ambitions and belief in their talent to reach the highest level of dressage, show jumping and eventing.
As a small team we don't generally work under titles - even as the owners we all muck out, trudge through the mud etc. But we are happy to support a members particular interests - competition grooming, running events, foal handling
Riding optional but limited beyond hacking, ground work and occasional fast work.
Our full time role is 5 days 8am-5pm (1h lunch) with one weekday and one weekend day off; each member works one full weekend a month. PAYE roll with 28 days holiday inc bank holidays, pension etc.
Requirements
Would prefer previous competition yard experience. But we are very different from most commercial yards in that the horses are not our source of income. We are a small team so we must all work together effectively with everyone working efficiently - it is extremely obvious when this is not the case and has an impact on the whole team so you must be able to maintain focus and high standards of work with the people around you. We are close knit and try to support each other whenever required.
