Your new role
As a Planning & Design Technologist, you will be responsible for planning and coordinating the installation of gas supply projects for customers, including builders, developers, and internal departments. You’ll prepare customer contracts based on established service definitions, products, and pricing, ensuring all requests are handled professionally and in alignment with internal policies and procedures.This role requires strong multitasking and organizational skills, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with various teams. You’ll apply your technical knowledge to support both customer‑driven and system‑driven distribution projects.
In Your First Year, You Will:
1. Learn about the regulated gas business model, including departmental functions and key stakeholder relationships.
2. Track and process requests using business systems such as GIS mapping, customer information systems, financial tools, material management, SharePoint, and estimating tools.
3. Visit worksites, observe installation and repair activities, and meet with customers requiring new or upgraded services.
In Your Second Year, You Will:
4. Plan and design moreplex system projects, including main extensions, system improvements, hazard mitigation, metering upgrades, and valve work.
5. Coordinate project details, including scope, service products, and pricing.
6. Serve as a key contact for builders, developers, and internal teams.
What you'll need to succeed
7. A post‑secondary Engineering Technology Diploma in a relevant discipline (e.g., civil, mechanical, petroleum, piping).
8. Certification—or eligibility for certification—at the technologist level with the provincial applied science technology association.
9. At least four years of related experience.
10. Strongmunication and organizational skills.
11. The ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of internal teams and external clients.
12. Willingness to work within operational requirements, which may include restricted holiday availability or shift work across various schedules.
