Job overview
Millom hospital has a 9 bedded in-patient unit which offers a high standard of rehabilitation therapies and End of life care for patients stepped up from the community or stepped down from the acute hospitals.
The aim of the unit is to provide a range of cares that meet the patients individual needs in order to allow them to become as independent as possible and able to return home or to provide the care required to keep a person comfortable and pain free in their last days of life.
The successful applicant will be provided with training in line with hospital trust policies and procedures and will be supported by staff.
Main duties of the job
An ideal opportunity has arisen here at Millom Community Hospital for a dedicated, reliable and flexible Band 3 clinical support worker to join our established team.
The main role of the health care assistant will be to support the nurse in charge with the delivery of a high standard of care to all our patients which will include assistance will all activities of daily living along with support and care for the dying patient and their families.
Working for our organisation
We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The main responsibilities are to work under the direction of the Registered nurse providing personal care and assistance to patients within defined parameters specified by the Registered nurse. Provide basic nursing care and document that care in the patients records.
Carry out a limited range of clinical care duties and supervise the work of others.
