We are excited to be recruiting for a new Phlebotomist to join our amazing practice team. The role will be approximately 26- 32 hours per week. Main duties of the job

Working under the direction of the Nurse Managerand as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, the post-holder will beresponsible for performing venepuncture, as requested by the clinical team, tothe entitled patient population. Inaddition, the Phlebotomist will be expected to support the nursing team on anas required basis.

This organisation will ensure the post-holder hasaccess to appropriate clinical supervision and an appropriate named individualin the organisation to provide general advice and support on a day-to-daybasis.

The post holder will be an integral part of the Practice team

We are a busy inner city Practice with 16,800 patients registered with us. We have an excellent clinical team of GPs, Advance Practitioners, and an amazing Practice Nurse team. We area training practice, we encourage and support personal development.


Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities ofthe Phlebotomist in delivering health services. There may be, on occasion, arequirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors suchas workload and staffing levels:

a.Obtainingpatient consent for the collection of a blood sample

b.Performingvenepuncture in accordance with practice protocols

c.Maintainingaccurate patient records on the clinical IT system and ensuring specimens areready for onward transportation

d.Thecorrect labelling, packaging and storing of samples

e.Effectiveuse of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies

f.Ensuringsamples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner

g.Maintainingeffective liaison with the NHS Trust laboratory staff

h.Workingcollaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary forpatient related matters

i. i. Beingan integral part of the general practice team

j.Actingas a chaperone as required

k.Ensuringclinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced inaccordance with the organisations IPC Policy

l.Workingwithin national and local protocols where these exist

m.Beaware of duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhereto practice policies and procedures on safeguarding adults and safeguardingchildre

n. Supporting the administrative team on an as-required basis

o.Undertakingall mandatory training and induction programmes

p.Contributingto and embracing the spectrum of clinical governance

r. Attending a formalappraisal with their manager at least every 12 months. Once aperformance/training objective has been set, progress will be reviewed on aregular basis so that new objectives can be agreed

Qualifications

* Qualifications:
* .Good standard of general education
* .There may need to be proof of any courses or training qualifications commensurate with the post
* Experience:
* .Experience of working with the general public
* .Experience of working in a healthcare setting
* Clinical knowledge and skills:
* .Able to perform venepuncture
* .Ability to work within own scope of practice and understanding when to refer to colleagues
* .Clinical IT system user skills and the ability to record accurate clinical notes
* .Understanding of safeguarding adults and children
* .Ability to follow legal, ethical and clinical policy and procedure
* .Knowledge of and ability to work to key policies and procedures
* .Ability to use own initiative, discretion, and sensitivity
* .Able to get along with people from all backgrounds and communities, respecting lifestyles and diversity
* .Ability to work as a team member and autonomously
* .Excellent communication skills and effective in communicating and understanding patient needs
