Electrical Engineer – Investigation Location: Bristol (with travel and hybrid flexibility) Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 (flexible for the right person) Looking for something different? This isn’t your typical engineering job. You’ll investigate electrical failures, fires and mechanical incidents figuring out what went wrong, why, and who’s responsible. Part detective, part engineer, part consultant. You’ll work on site, from home and in the office, writing reports used by insurers, solicitors, and major businesses. It’s varied, challenging, and meaningful work, no two days are the same. What you’ll be doing Attend incident sites, often in challenging environments Forensically examine electrical and mechanical systems Write clear, concise technical reports Manage your own caseload and deadlines Communicate directly with clients and legal teams Help uncover the cause, retrace the faults Who we’re looking for Essential Experience & Attributes A strong background in electrical or building services engineering (with an electrical bias). A degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a closely related field. Real-world engineering experience whether in consultancy, design or manufacturing. The confidence to apply your knowledge in uncertain or reactive situations The physical and mental resilience to handle chaotic, sometimes uncomfortable environments (e.g. fire scenes). Clear, concise writing ability to produce reports that can be used in legal and insurance settings (Bond Solon training given) A natural sense of customer service someone who turns up on time, communicates well, and gets the job done to the clients expectations Desirable Experience Experience in fault finding, forensic-style work, and root cause analysis. Any fire-related engineering experience. Strong commercial skills understanding time billing, client liaison, and the service nature of the role.
