ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a skilled Technician to join our dynamic team within the Faculty of Science and Environment.
As a technician here at Northumbria University, you will be part of our professional support team, delivering high-quality technical services to support research and teaching in Biosciences. You will help to set up and support research projects, practical classes and other activities, preparing materials, reagents and equipment in line with agreed protocols. Working closely with senior technical staff and academic colleagues, you will be responsible for:
1. Equipment Management: Operating, calibrating, cleaning, and performing minor maintenance and repairs on a range of standard and specialised scientific instruments and apparatus (e.g. centrifuges, microscopes, tissue culture equipment)
2. Stock Control & Procurement: Monitoring and managing stock levels of consumables and materials, processing orders, receiving deliveries, and maintaining accurate inventory records.
3. Health & Safety and Compliance: Understanding, promoting, and strictly applying all relevant health and safety procedures to support safe and efficient use of facilities by students and staff, providing technical guidance where appropriate
4. General Housekeeping: Help ensure laboratories are clean, well-organised and compliant with health and safety procedures, including appropriate waste disposal.
