We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Project Engineer to join our Project Team, based at our Thornton-Cleveleys headquarters, in Lancashire. More about the role The Victrex capital programme is crucial to the success of the business, involving multi-million-pound investments in production plant, buildings, and upgrades at the site. As Project Engineer you will be responsible for the delivery and support for individual investments across the facility, which requires project engineering expertise at a professional level. Victrex Project Engineers work across the whole lifecycle of a project from Concept, through Study to project execution (engineering, procurement, construction -EPC) and commissioning. Project Engineers are responsible for a portfolio of projects, supporting larger projects and managing smaller projects to ensure successful delivery of projects in terms of time, cost and quality. As Project Engineer you will manage projects up to £4m in value to ensure cost, programme, quality and safety meet required targets. Whilst also leading engineering on larger projects involving multi- discipline teams (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation designers and engineers). You will organise design reviews and monitor construction standards to ensure that the quality of design and build is acceptable to Victrex. The Project Engineer will manage the interface between contractors and Victrex so that technical and procedural issues, method statements, and access to existing plant are resolved. You will monitor the progress of contractors against programme and agree any corrective action; review contractors cost reporting against control estimates so that any significant deviations can be identified and appropriate action taken; and agree scope changes in contract prices. You will also audit and review contractor's organisation, systems, procedures, and performance to ensure that projects are executed safely. Your Experience We are looking for someone with a minimum of 10 years experience delivering projects within agreed timescales and budgets in a complex Chemical manufacturing environment. Recent fine chemical plant site experience in COMAH regulated, DSEAR sites is preferred. The role requires you to have a broad understanding of engineering disciplines and to be familiar with benefits analysis, estimating techniques, risk management, design reviews, equipment/subcontracts procurement, safe systems of work and project performance reporting methods. You will have experience of working for or with EPCM contractors throughout the project lifecycle and preferably have some recent Project Management training or qualifications. Our ideal candidate will have efficient communication & organisational skills, be a good team player and have a completer/finisher nature. You will have good commercial awareness with the ability to analyse engineering documentation (often several volumes) and spot elements not in Victrex’s interest. We are looking for someone with the drive, tenacity and commitment, combined with the experience to challenge contractors’ positions and provide best practice guidance to others. You must be flexible and enjoy team working in the office, at site, or in Contractors’ offices, with the ability and willingness to travel in the UK and overseas as required. A relevant engineering degree and equivalent experience is essential for this role, and Chartered status from a relevant Engineering Institution or equivalent experience is required.
