A specialist school in the Chorley area is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join their team from January 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people with additional needs, particularly those who present with behavioural, social, or emotional challenges.
About the Role
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a key role in helping pupils regulate their behaviour, build resilience, and develop positive coping strategies. You will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral leads, and external professionals to deliver consistent, calm, and supportive intervention.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide 1:1 and small-group behaviour support to pupils with SEMH and complex needs
* Implement behaviour plans, de-escalation techniques, and therapeutic strategies
* Promote positive relationships built on trust, respect, and clear boundaries
* Support pupils both in and out of the classroom to help them engage with learning
* Work collaboratively with the wider school team to monitor progress and review strategies
* Maintain accurate records and uphold safeguarding procedures at all times
The Ideal Candidate:
* Experience working with children or young people who present with challenging behaviour
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills
* Confident, patient, and resilient, with a calm approach under pressure
* Able to build rapport and maintain professional boundaries
* Comfortable working within a structured behaviour support environment
* A background in SEN, SEMH, youth work, mentoring, coaching, or support work is desirable
