Plymouth City Councils Bereavement Service has an exciting opportunity for a Bereavement Service Officer to join us at Plymouth Crematorium at The Park.
About The Role
In this role, you will play a key part in the Bereavement Service by supporting bereaved families with advice and guidance, over the phone, by email or face to face. You will contribute to maintaining excellent service standards and ensuring that the needs of service users are met with care and professionalism.
Working in a small admin team you will work collaboratively with colleagues, ensuring that admin tasks are dealt with and within service level agreements whilst tasks remain effective and responsive to changing needs. This is a varied and engaging role, processing the paperwork for either the cremation or the burial of the deceased. Supporting bereaved families with the booking of Wakes, purchasing memorials and general enquiries.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide efficient, effective, and specialist business support across the Bereavement Service
* Contribute to the successful delivery of departmental objectives and service standards
* Maintain and develop operational systems and procedures aligned to service requirements
* Support day-to-day service delivery, ensuring smooth and compliant operations
* Supervise staff and coordinate projects to achieve key outcomes
* Assist with financial processes, including budget monitoring and support
We Are Looking For Someone Who Is
* Highly organised with strong attention to detail
* Extensive experience in business support, administration, or operational roles
* Confident in supervising staff and managing workloads
* Able to develop and improve processes and systems
* Comfortable working with financial information and budgets
* A strong communicator who is naturally empathetic, patient and composed
* Professional in appearance and conduct
The role will be based at Plymouth City Council’s Crematorium, The Park, which is located at Merafield Road, Plymouth.
