We are looking for motivated individuals with a willingness and enthusiasm to learn, who are excited to join the Research & Development business to support the associated scientific processes required for the drug discovery and development process such as;
· Research Technologies - Target Discovery: The Human Biology department leads large-scale target identification and validation to generate novel targets for drugs. We develop translational disease models, enable high throughput screen and integrate scaled cell supply, complex model development (including stem cells and organoids), genome editing (CRISPR) and biological assays. We collaborate across therapy areas (respiratory, nephrology, hepatology, neurodegeneration, oncology and more). Substantial technology investments in automation, model development, biobanking, and Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI/ML) driven data integration support our large-scale human biology initiatives. · Medicine Design & Supply - Drug Substance Development: The Enzyme and Oligonucleotide Development department focuses on designing and delivering innovative solutions for the development of oligonucleotide drug substance. We create robust manufacturing routes for both early and late phase molecules and pioneering novel downstream purification and isolation approaches. We also advance enzyme technologies across R&D and the Global Supply Chain to enable sustainable, efficient processes. ~ R&D Lab Science Apprentice
Education required:
· GCSE Mathematics and English Language (grade A*-C / 9-4) or equivalent
· Must have/be predicted 104 UCAS points including 3 A-levels (one must be Grade C in Biology), or an equivalent scientific discipline
Language requirement: Written and spoken fluency in English
Duration: 4 years Location: You will be based at Stevenage. You must live within a 60-minute commute of the site location on the day you start your apprenticeship as you are expected to be on site daily.
Stevenage is GSK’s UK R&D Hub, which is the heart of innovation, discovering and developing differentiated, high-quality and needed medicines that are bringing transformational benefit to patients.
What will you do?
Job role will be in accordance with the department you join and broadly include;
· Work with teams of excellent multi-disciplined scientists both internally and externally to progress a diverse portfolio of biopharmaceuticals through discovery, development, and characterization, such as molecular engineering and biological and physiochemical profiling.
· Learn and apply specialist knowledge and scientific understanding to carry out a range of technical and scientific activities in an R&D laboratory environment
· Use a range of cutting-edge technologies and approaches to help answer key questions throughout the different phases of drug discovery and development
· Operate and maintain specialist laboratory equipment’s to perform analytical tests as part of the drug development processes
· Develop, evaluate, and interpret reports of experimental data using analytical tools to enable decision making, propose solutions and drive improvements
· Gain in-depth and cross-sectional insights across the Research and Development function.
· Undertake mandatory training and adhere to standard operating procedures to uphold quality, safety and regulatory compliance.
