Job Description
The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing their skills to effectively carry out the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. They are responsible for quality communication, teamwork, leadership, and professionalism. Additionally, they direct, coordinate, and implement patient teaching, quality and safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.

Additional Responsibilities
A Registered Nurse II (RN II) is responsible for the care of their assigned patient population. RN II is required to complete yearly mandatory competencies, unit-specific competencies as identified by the Director/Designee, and meet Professional Practice Ladder requirements, which include: assuming responsibility as Charge Nurse, participating in PI activities, and contributing to department initiatives. They must also communicate and share information with the Director/Designee and co-workers, participate in educational activities, and maintain a current portfolio submitted annually by March 1st. Routine activities include soliciting patient/family satisfaction, participating in peer reviews, and developing educational materials for staff and patients.
Education
* Associates Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN, or ADN) required
* Bachelors Nursing (BSN) preferred
Experience
Minimum of 1872 hours (or 936 hours if holding a BSN) of RN experience and completion of a performance evaluation are required for advancement to this level.
Certification & Licensures
* RN License required
* BLS Certification (American Heart Association Healthcare Provider) required
* Relevant Specialty Certification preferred
Additional Certification/Licensure Requirements
Must be licensed or eligible to practice as a Registered Nurse in Virginia, either via multi-state license under the Nurse Licensure Compact or a single-state license valid in Virginia. New hires must obtain AHA certification prior to orientation completion.
