Workshop Manager

The Role:
The Workshop Manager is responsible for planning, managing, and driving the maintenance requirements of all equipment and products at the local base. This role is crucial in ensuring the highest quality mechanical reliability and aesthetic appearance of all equipment, as well as maintaining a positive and proactive culture within the workshop.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Operational Management:
Oversee day to day workshop operations to ensure safe, efficient, and timely delivery of services.
Plan, allocate, and monitor jobs to ensure optimal use of manpower, tools, and equipment.
Ensure all workshop activities comply with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.Asset Maintenance & Equipment Integrity:
Manage inspection, maintenance, repair, recertification, and refurbishment of equipment/tooling.
Ensure equipment records, service reports, and certification documentation are accurate and up to date.
Implement preventative maintenance schedules to reduce equipment downtime.HSEQ Leadership:
Promote and enforce a strong safety culture within the workshop environment.
Ensure compliance with HSEQ requirements, conducting toolbox talks, incident reporting, and corrective action follow up.
Lead and participate in risk assessments.Personnel Management:
Lead, mentor, and develop workshop technicians/apprentices.
Carry out performance reviews, training plans, competency assessments, and succession planning.
Manage resource planning, including overtime, shift patterns, and holiday scheduling.Quality Assurance & Process Control:
Ensure work is carried out in line with approved procedures, service quality plans, and customer specifications.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service quality and operational efficiency.
Address NCRs, implement root cause analysis, and ensure corrective actions are closed out.Inventory, Materials, and Supply Chain Coordination:
Manage workshop inventory, spare parts, consumables, and tooling availability.
Support accurate stock control and coordinate procurement requirements with supply chain.
Reduce waste and improve cost efficiency through effective material management.Customer Service & Interface:
Act as the point of contact for clients regarding workshop operations, equipment status, and job progress.
Liaise with operations, logistics, engineering, and quality to ensure customer expectations are met.
Support technical queries and provide accurate job costing and workflow updates.Planning & Reporting:
Prepare and submit operational reports, KPI dashboards, and job summaries.
Provide forecasts for manpower, equipment needs, job scheduling, and capacity planning.
Support budgeting processes and cost-control measures within workshop operations.Compliance & Documentation:
Ensure full compliance with ISO standards and industry-specific requirements.
Maintain proper documentation for audits, customer inspections, and regulatory visits.
Continuous Improvement & Strategic Support:
Identify opportunities to improve workshop layout, workflow, or equipment utilisation.
Support the implementation of new technologies, processes, and digital systems.
Contribute to business improvement initiatives and operational strategy.Who are we looking for?
A process driven professional with strong operational and workshop management experience within an oil & gas service environment.
The ability to build and lead a high performing operational delivery team focused on service quality, equipment readiness, and maintenance standards that consistently meet customer and regulatory expectations.
A strong focus on service quality, documentation accuracy, and equipment integrity along with being capable to deputise for the Operations Manager as and when required.
Key skills, knowledge and experience:
Supervisory or management experience within an offshore or oilfield service provider environment.
Strong understanding of oilfield equipment maintenance, hydraulics, inspection, repair, and recertification processes.
Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve issues that may arise in the workshop.
Working knowledge of applicable industry standards (ISO, LOLER, PUWER, ATEX).
Knowledge of Lean/5S principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
Demonstrated background in leading multi-disciplinary workshop teams.
Ability to maintain high performance under operational pressure.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and OEM manuals.
Competence in planning, scheduling, and prioritising workloads in a dynamic operational environment.
Competent in conducting risk assessments and toolbox talks.
Experience with ERP/MRP systems for job planning, inventory management, and cost tracking.
Clear and effective communication skills with internal teams and external clients.*This role is to be based at our Oldmeldrum. Aberdeen location, therefore, you will need to live within a commutable distance to this location.
