Job Description
The Department of Chemistry is seeking an experienced electrician to join our in‑house maintenance team. As the senior electrician the role holder supervises an electrician and an electrical apprentice to provide a complete electrical service, including installation, preventive maintenance and breakdown repairs independently of any electrical supervision. The team also undertakes minor refurbishments within the department.
Responsibilities
* Install and fault‑find electrical items including mains circuits, sub‑circuits, 3‑phase circuits, fans, pumps, control circuits, lighting, switchgear, inverters and motors.
* Diagnose and repair breakdowns to electrical equipment and plant.
* Supervise external electrical contractors and liaise with Estates.
* Source electrical supplies and support the Fire Manager with electrical safety.
* Work independently, prioritise own workload, and use own initiative while maintaining a flexible attitude.
Qualifications
* Minimum 18th Edition training and broad knowledge of industrial and domestic electrical work.
* City & Guilds – Electrical Installation Part 1 & Part 2 and/or NVQ Level 3 in electrical installation.
* Preferably City & Guilds 2391 electrical testing, inspection and verification.
* Good interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.
* Ability to work unsupervised, under pressure and deal with a wide range of people at all levels.
* Some supervisory experience would be beneficial.
