Who are Acis?
We began as a social landlord providing homes in West Lindsey over 25 years ago and have continue to grow to meet the needs of the customers we serve. Now we provide over 7,000 affordable homes across the East Midlands, Yorkshire and the Humber, deliver education and employment services to over 5,000 people every year through our four learning hubs stretching from Gainsborough to Mablethorpe and offer wider student and accommodation services to over 1,000 students each year in partnership with Universities in Nottingham and Sheffield.
We support people with different services for when they need us - offering different homes that meet different needs - including ones for affordable rent, Shared Ownership, people aged 55 and over, supported housing and homes for sale. We offer everything from entry level to higher level qualifications, arts and wellbeing courses through to employability support to help people fulfil their potentialthrough our community enterprise’s Riverside Training and CLIP. Our accommodation services for students give people a safe home away from home which offers a safe affordable room with on-site wellbeing, support and events to help them thrive.
What to expect from this role:
Your role is all about helping others to develop by delivering a variety of engaging courses and qualifications. Being a tutor plays a key role in providing our customers with the skills, qualifications and confidence to achieve their personal and career goals. We also know tutors have their own interests that they could teach if given the chance to develop their skills. And as much of our delivery is community based to give people experience and opportunity to try new things, we do exactly that with our tutors. So, whether that’s arts and crafts, map reading, psychology, accounting, catering or DIY – we build on those skills and interests and give you the space to develop your teaching in these areas – and gain qualifications should you need to to deliver teaching in it. We also want to give opportunities for our tutors to develop wider skills away from the classroom. Therefore, in addition to the core role outlined above, we offer bolt-on responsibilities to give experience and develop skills.
As a Tutor, a typical day might include:
1. Delivering a range of courses across our provision, no two days are the same so you could be teaching Math’s and English functional skills one day and delivering employability skills or a ‘Get into Construction’ routeway the next.
2. Developing skills and expertise within your area of specialism, to offer more for our learners.
3. Contributing to curriculum development across your subjects' areas of expertise, bringing innovation, energy and excitement to both the subject matter and our style of teaching to help our learners thrive.
4. Owning your learners end to end – ensuring attendance, achievement and progression, in all courses and programmes. This may include 1-2-1 sessions with those learners who need additional support.
5. Supporting recruitment across all our programmes, not just the courses you deliver, working with the engagement team to ensure progression targets are met following completion on your course.
6. Being responsible for Quality Assurance of your teaching to ensure our customers receive the best service possible.
7. Welcoming people from across the team into the teaching setting to observe learning, get involved and help learners achieve.
8. Planning, preparing, delivering and evaluating all the courses you lead.
9. Preparing plans, schemes of work and learning materials for each session, making them available for monitoring or lesson observation visits and maintaining them.
10. Completing learner records and monitoring reports in line with programme requirements, marking and assessing learners’ work, monitoring their progress to ensure our learners are prepared for exams and/or course accreditation.
11. developing links with partners and employers to develop new opportunities for learners.
12. Identifying progression opportunities - further learning, apprenticeships or employment for all learners.
13. Ensuring that learners complete all admin documentation including enrolment forms and learner feedback.
We’d love to see:
14. Tutors able to deliver to 15-19’s and / or adults over 19.
15. Maths tutors – to teach all levels including functional skills and GCSE to all ages 15-19 and adults.
16. English tutors – to teach all levels including functional skills and GCSE to all ages 15-19 and adults.
17. Digital skills tutors - to all ages 15-19 and adults.
18. Vocational specialisms from non-regulated learning and short courses up to level three in:ConstructionCatering and HospitalityHair and BeautyHorticultureHealth and Social CareSportsHorticulture
The must haves:
19. A willingness and ability to deliver a range of courses beyond your primary area of expertise with an enthusiasm to develop your skills to adapt our delivery to the needs of our learners.
20. Qualifications in your subject specialism (to at least Level 4 equivalent), or an in-depth knowledge and substantial experience in the subject area.
21. Teaching qualification appropriate for working in Post 16 Sector and Adult Learning Sector, and/or willingness to undergo further training.
22. L3 Award in Education and Training (formerly PTLLS) or the equivalent would be considered an advantage for an applicant without a formal qualification.
23. Experience of teaching/training or working with groups of adults in appropriate field.
24. An understanding of the principles underpinning teaching adults, i.e., planning, delivery, assessment and evaluation of learning.
25. An awareness of different learning strategies and teaching methods suitable for teaching a diverse range of abilities.
26. Effective oral and written communication, numeracy and interpersonal qualifications & skills to communicate effectively with staff and learners alike
27. A commitment and ability to comply with Equality & Diversity, Health & Safety policies, etc. and our safer recruitment approach.

28. Awareness of the needs of underachieving and disengaged young people
29. Ability to deal with challenging behaviour at times
30. Experience in delivering externally funded contract provision e.g., local authority, Lottery, ESF, ESFA, DWP
31. Qualification in Mentoring, Advice and Guidance or similar
32. Any level or experience in a support role or in Information, Advice and Guidance
