Hands-on Tech Lead (AI/Data/Infrastructure) | Boutique Hedge Fund | London | 4–5 days office | Salary negotiable + sizable bonus
We’re working with a boutique hedge fund in London that’s building a genuinely modern tech capability to support a high-conviction, human-led investment process. They need a hands-on leader — someone who can set direction and ship.
This is a builder role: small team, high ownership, fast decisions. Startup/scale-up backgrounds are strongly preferred (or a hedge fund where you’ve operated like one).
What you’ll be doing
* Build and ship production-grade software and data capabilities (Python-first)
* Apply AI/ML/GenAI pragmatically to real problems (LLMs, retrieval/RAG, evaluation, automation)
* Own delivery across multiple initiatives: prioritise, plan, unblock, communicate, execute
* Architect scalable, resilient infrastructure and data platforms (ETL, pipelines, governance)
* Raise the bar on reliability and controls through great engineering (testing, monitoring, documentation, security-minded design)
* Lead by doing: support and grow a small specialist team, while staying hands-on
* Communicate the roadmap clearly to senior stakeholders (and occasionally to external audiences)
What they’re looking for
* Highly educated with a strong academic track record (STEM/technical preferred)
* Commercial thinker — understands value, impact, and speed
* Exceptional communicator — can translate complexity into clear decisions
* Tenacious, high-ownership, accountable; thrives in ambiguity and pace
* Practical ML/GenAI experience implemented in real systems (not just experimentation)
