Health & Safety Officer
Salary: £45,000 + benefits
Location: Hybrid - London/Essex
Contract: Permanent, full-time
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm, with some flexibility
This is a newly established role created to give health and safety dedicated focus across the business. The successful candidate will play a key part in supporting safe delivery across construction and M&E activities, working alongside operational teams to drive compliance, improve standards, and embed a strong health and safety culture throughout the organisation.
The position will involve a mix of office, site, and home working, with regular travel to sites across London and the wider M25 area.
The role
In this position, you will be responsible for helping the business maintain high standards of health, safety, and compliance across multiple sites and offices. You will work closely with managers, supervisors, and project teams to provide practical support and guidance on day-to-day H&S matters.
Key responsibilities will include:
* Carrying out site inspections, safety audits, and compliance checks across active projects and operational locations.
* Assisting with the preparation, review, and ongoing improvement of RAMS.
* Delivering toolbox talks, safety updates, and other H&S communications to site and operational teams.
* Supporting the upkeep and development of company HSEQ procedures, systems, and documentation.
* Following up on actions raised through audits, inspections, incidents, and near misses to ensure they are resolved.
* Assisting with incident investigations and the completion of related reporting.
* Supporting external audits, client reviews, and accreditation renewals.
* Keeping health and safety records, training data, and compliance paperwork accurate and up to date.
* Monitoring changes in legislation and helping ensure company procedures remain aligned with current requirements.
About you
We are looking for someone with solid construction-sector health and safety experience who can build credibility with site teams and managers alike. You should be confident working in a practical, hands-on environment and comfortable balancing compliance with operational realities.
To be successful, you will ideally have:
* At least 5 years' experience in a health and safety role within the construction industry.
* Good working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and HSE expectations.
* Strong experience supporting or reviewing RAMS within a construction setting.
* IOSH, NEBOSH, NVQ, or a similar relevant qualification. Candidates working towards a qualification will also be considered where they can demonstrate strong industry experience.
* A full UK driving licence.
* The ability to travel regularly to sites across London, Essex, and the M25 region, with occasional UK travel when required.
