Freelance Building Surveyor / Project Manager – Site Delivery (Outside IR35)
Location: Stoke-on-Trent (multi-site)
Rate: Competitive day rate (Outside IR35)
Duration: 6–9 months
Start: ASAP
We are currently recruiting for a freelance Building Surveyor / Project Manager to support a major PFI school handback programme across approximately 20 sites in the Stoke area.
This is a site-focused delivery role, ideal for someone confident managing contractors and ensuring high-quality outcomes on the ground. You’ll act as the client-side lead, overseeing project progress without being involved in design or specification – these elements are handled by the local authority’s consultants.
Key Responsibilities:
* Day-to-day project management across multiple school sites
* Procure and coordinate contractors for refurbishment and compliance-based works
* Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress and quality of work
* Ensure works align with programme timelines and handback obligations
* Act as liaison between stakeholders, consultants, and contractors
Requirements:
* Experience delivering projects within the public sector, education, or PFI environments
* Strong background in site-based delivery and contractor management
* Ability to manage multiple schemes simultaneously
* Excellent communication and organisational skills
* Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-site environment
