Design-Led Engineering with Global Impact
We are exclusively partnered with a fast-growing, internationally active engineering business that delivers high-integrity technical solutions to clients in over 50 countries. As part of their continued growth, we are seeking a detail-driven and innovative Mechanical Design Engineer to join their engineering team and play a central role in the design and development of bespoke industrial equipment.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a hands-on, technically skilled engineer to work on projects that span borders and industries—particularly within tank storage, asphalt, bitumen, and related sectors—developing high-performance equipment that meets the demanding needs of global customers.
The Role
You will be a key part of the engineering function, responsible for delivering robust, high-quality mechanical designs from concept through to production. Using SolidWorks as your primary design tool, you’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and clients to develop solutions that meet technical, regulatory, and commercial requirements.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Producing 3D models, assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks
Developing mechanical designs for industrial equipment involving liquid flow, heating, and pipework
Participating in customer-facing meetings to understand technical requirements and tailor designs accordingly
Liaising with suppliers and fabricators to ensure manufacturability and cost-efficiency
Supporting the standardisation of technical documentation including drawings, manuals, and installation guides
Reading and producing technical drawings including P&IDs
Ensuring all designs comply with relevant industry standards and regulatory frameworks
Collaborating closely with internal teams across engineering, sales, and operations to ensure seamless project delivery
Contributing to continuous improvement of design processes, tooling, and documentation systems
The Person
You’ll be a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer with a practical, hands-on approach and a strong grounding in real-world design challenges—particularly in industries such as tank storage, bitumen, asphalt, or other process-driven sectors.
Essential Experience and Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a mechanical design engineering role
Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (3D modelling and detailed drafting)
Experience designing for systems involving fluid handling, heating, or pressure vessels
Familiarity with fabrication, welding, and mechanical assembly processes
Previous exposure to industries such as asphalt, bitumen, oil & gas, or chemical storage preferred
Engineering degree or equivalent qualification
Ability to read and produce technical drawings including P&IDs
Experience in the manufacture of any of the following: asphalt plant, construction plant or machinery, bitumen or fuel storage sites, asphalt or bitumen equipment
You’ll Also Bring:
Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to design work
Clear communication skills, both written and verbal
The ability to manage multiple design projects simultaneously
A collaborative mindset and willingness to contribute to wider engineering and business goals
