Position Details
We are recruiting Healthcare Support Workers for our Emergency Department. Both full and part-time roles are available. Flexibility is required as shifts include days, nights, bank holidays, and weekends. Our shift system operates 12-hour shifts, covering 7 days a week, with times from 7:30 am to 8:00 pm, and 7:30 pm to 8:00 am. Due to the face-to-face nature of the role, no remote assessments or interviews will be conducted.
Role Responsibilities
1. Support the delivery of high-quality patient care, including assisting with personal hygiene, nutrition, bowel and bladder care, and maintaining privacy and dignity.
2. Perform clinical duties delegated by a Registered Nurse, such as blood glucose monitoring, urinalysis, ECGs, catheter removal, wound management, venous cannula insertion/removal, and venepuncture.
3. Assist with patient mobility, environment preparation, and comfort, utilizing trained equipment.
4. Help prevent pressure damage by supporting pressure area care, undertaking risk assessments, and documenting accordingly.
5. Support last offices for deceased patients, respecting religious and cultural wishes.
6. Transfer patients between care areas or to other hospitals as delegated.
7. Support patients' rest and sleep needs, and chaperone as required.
8. Assist in alleviating distress and anxiety, supporting patients with dementia or cognitive impairments.
9. Follow infection prevention protocols, including waste management and PPE use.
10. Maintain ward cleanliness and handle patient property responsibly.
11. Undertake patient observations, including vital signs and NEWS2 scoring, escalating concerns appropriately.
12. Support team effectiveness and contribute to a positive working environment.
13. Assist in staff induction and training, demonstrating best practices.
14. Collect specimens for testing as required.
Qualifications and Skills
Experience is preferable but not essential, as training will be provided for suitable candidates. Good communication skills are essential.
