Are you an experienced finance professional looking for a rewarding challenge in the education sector? We are seeking a committed and dynamic Interim Finance Manager to oversee and manage the financial operations of our College during a period of maternity leave.
This is a fixed-term role offering the opportunity to play a key leadership role within our organisation, ensuring our financial systems, reporting and strategy continue to operate at the highest standard.
Key Responsibilities
As Interim Finance Manager, you will be responsible for the efficient and effective management of the College’s finances. Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will lead the finance team, provide strategic and operational financial support, and ensure statutory and regulatory compliance.
* Preparation and analysis of monthly management accounts and annual financial statements
* Oversight of all cash management activities including payment runs, bank reconciliations and forecasting
* Leading the internal and external audit processes, ensuring timely implementation of actions
* Supporting budget planning processes and contributing to the College’s 3-year financial plan
* Ensuring expenditure is aligned with budgets and procedures are followed
* Acting as a key point of contact for managers and budget holders across the organisation
* Maintenance and development of finance systems and accounting procedures
* Preparation and submission of statutory returns including VAT, ONS and ESFA
* Oversight of procurement, asset management, and insurance arrangements
* Line management of the Finance team, supporting recruitment, development and performance
Qualifications and Training
* Qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA) or equivalent
Skills and Expertise
* Experience in producing financial statements and management accounts
* Knowledge of accounting standards (FRS, SORP, etc.)
* Skilled in managing audits and working with external advisors
* High level of IT proficiency, particularly Excel and finance systems
* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage confidently with a range of stakeholders
* Demonstrable leadership skills with experience in managing and motivating teams
* Strong understanding of procurement and financial compliance
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults
