CAMHS Urgent Care Practitioner

Do you want to be part of a forward thinking, well respected, fast moving, multi-disciplinary young person's Urgent Care Team? Can you deliver compassionate care to those young people that present in mental health crisis?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Mental Health Practitioner to join our CAMHS Urgent Care Team in North Derbyshire. The Team is a well-established part of the wider CAMHS Service and is a supportive, well organised team with a culture of friendly, multi-disciplinary work based at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

You will have experience of direct work with children and young people who have mental health problems and you will be adept at undertaking mental health assessments and interventions. You will have the necessary knowledge in assessing risk and drawing up robust safety plans.

You will have a core professional qualification eg Nurse, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist or HCPC registered AHP.


Main duties of the job

The Urgent Care Team provides a rapid response service to children and young people and families who are presenting with acute mental health or emotional disturbance to a degree where the risk they pose indicates that an inpatient admission may be required.

You will offer mental health and risk assessment, formulation and brief intervention with those young people under 18 who are presenting with urgent mental health needs. The team operate between the hours of 08am-11pm over seven days with plans to develop 24 hour on-call cover (NHS Agenda for change pay enhancements apply.)

Person Specification


Qualifications

* ooRN or Registered Social Worker or registered OT oDegree or Diploma qualification in relevant profession as above oEvidence of continuing professional development
* oPost qualification courses in child care practice or therapeutic work with children and families


skills and Knowledge

* Evidence of continuing professional development
* oSound knowledge of Child Care legislation, Safeguarding, Mental Health Act, Care Programme Approach and Risk Assessment.
* oGood knowledge of current local and national strategies concerning CAMHS, Children's Services and mental health
* oGood understanding of child and adolescent development
* oAbility to work both as a member of a team and autonomously and to manage own and other colleagues anxieties.
* oHighly developed communication skills including the ability to de-escalate situations involving high expressed emotion
* oKnowledge and application of standardised assessments and outcome measures.
* oKeyboard skills and use of IT packages
* oKnowledge of and skills in using a variety of approaches and methods as required to work with individuals, couples, family systems, groups and organisations.
* oSkills in receiving and providing supervision


Experience

* oExperience of assessing and managing mental health risk.
* oRelevant experience of working with people with mental health needs, including severe and enduring mental ill health
* oExperience of using evidence based practice.
* oExperience of working in CAMHS.
* oExperience of the application of psychological therapies in home/community environments.
* oExperience of teaching and training.
* oExperience of service evaluation and audit

* oQualities essential to clinical practices eg respect, genuineness and personal integrity.
* oA car driver with full current driving licence and own transport. For disabled applicants suitable alternative arrangements many be agreed if necessary.

* oExcellent time management skills, organisational skills, ability to work under pressure and to manage own and other workloads efficiently.
