We have an exciting opportunity for two new Practice Facilitators x 2 to join the team over at Koala and Possum ward.

Koala ward currently comprises of 24 inpatient beds providing specialist neuroscience and high dependency care to patients of all ages from 0-18 years old. Possum ward will be opening Autumn/Winter 2024 and will comprise of an 8 bedded inpatient unit caring for patients 0-18 years with neurological conditions.

The post is based on both Koala and Possum wards to provide essential education and teaching to ensure that staff are competent and confident in all aspects of neuroscience nursing. The successful candidates will provide education and support to a wide range of nursing and healthcare roles, and will further the skills of already trained nurses.

Main duties of the job

* To provide clinical leadership to a designated nursing team and ensure the provision of high-quality nursing care to children and families.
* To act as a role model and expert clinical practitioner demonstrating leadership and professionalism at all times.
* To promote continuous improvement of patient care through research and evidence-based practice.
* To encourage and support the development of clinical skills by working directly alongside staff with particular emphasis on new and less experienced staff.
* To assist in the safe, effective, and efficient management of the department To work with the Practice Educator and Ward Managers to identify and facilitate learning needs for individual members of staff in response to clinical needs.
* To work with the Practice Educator and Education Team in leading the teaching, training and education of all staff.
* Facilitate the creating of a positive learning environment where staff development is encouraged and supported, and talent is fostered and enhanced.
* Work trust-wide supporting the education team in practice development service improvement and organisational transformation to deliver the trusts vision and objectives.

* NMC Registered Nurse (Child) or Registered Nurse relevant to area of practice, Neuroscience Nursing, High Dependency Care
* Mentorship/assessor/supervisor qualification or course
* Evidence of ongoing dynamic continuing professional development within the relevant speciality
* Possession of relevant degree (or working towards)
* EPLS
* Leadership or management training


Experience/Knowledge

* A considerable amount of post registration experience
* Recent clinical practice in relevant speciality (Neurosciences)
* Excellent speciality knowledge relevant to department
* Experience as a mentor/assessor/supervisor
* Teaching supervision and managerial experience
* Experience of coordinating and managing patient care
* Understanding of professional and current issues in children’s nursing
* Experience at band 6 level within relevant clinical environment
* Previous experience of research and audit
* Previous experience of change management and problem solving
* Awareness of adult learning and the process of staff development


Skills/Abilities

* Excellent paediatric clinical skills
* Effective teaching and presentation skills

* Computer Literacy
* Interviewing skills
* Competent in management and troubleshooting of Central Venous Access Devices (CVADs) eg Urokinase
