Main duties of the job
Audio typing all clinical reports/correspondence.
Responding to external and internal queries.
E mail clinical reports to originating referrer when required.
Use of department database and computer packages where appropriate to initiate and maintain records.
Use of FLEX/National Spine.
Assist other members of the admin team when required.To include the authorisation and sending out of reports. To book patients into appointments and send the relevant letter/information. Input of patient referrals into department database via e mail, post and digital ordering.
Participates in general administration of referrals, DNA and NRTI letters completed and recorded in database.
Communicates with a range of staff, users and visitors to the trust/department utilizing a variety of communication methods including verbal, electronic and passing information in a format that is appropriate to the individual request.
Manage electronic diary (Solus) slots, booking patients in and moving slots when required.
Provide secretarial/administrative services by perusing and distributing incoming correspondence, disseminating information, composing letters and correspondence, maintaining up to date filing systems, booking systems and continuously developing administrative practices to ensure order and efficiency in the office.

The department provides comprehensive range of neurophysiological procedures including routine, sleep, ambulatory and portable EEGs recording for both adults and paediatrics in ICU and neonatal. Clinical physiologists are also involved in performing MSLTs, evoked potentials, nerve conduction studies and intra-operative monitoring in theatres.

The Neurosciences Centre comprises both Neurosurgery and Medical Neurosciences (Neurology, Neurophysiology, neuroradiology, including interventional neuroradiology, neuropathology and Neurorehabilitation). The population served by the Neurosciences Centre is approximately 1.6 million from the catchment area of Lancashire and South Cumbria.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will be a member of a team of support medical secretaries and administration staff providing secretarial and administrative support to Consultants, junior medical staff and technical staff.Team working and collaboration are vital.
The post holder will be based in the Neurophysiology Department.
The post holder will demonstrate excellent organisational skills, must be flexible in approach, able to exercise initiative and demonstrate a consistently high standard of professionalism, being aware of the need for confidentiality and integrity. A wide range of tasks are undertaken in the department.
A professional telephone manner is essential, a number of telephone queries are received from other hospitals, medical staff, secretaries and GP surgeries. Appointments are booked in the department and patients/carers ring directly.

7. GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above
8. Typing/word processing qualification (e.g. RSA II/III, OCR, or equivalent experience
