Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a Band or dietitian with UGI surgical experience to support the department to deliver high quality care to patients being treated within the UGI Unit at the Churchill Hospital. You will provide advice and support the needs of this complex group of patients pre, peri and post treatment.

We encourage every Band to protect % of their time within the role to development, both individually and as a service. Initially this will be to lead the creation and establishment of this service, supported by the Implementation Lead Nurse, Team Lead and Service Manager. This will also include quality improvement projects, clinical audit and CPD, as well as ongoing service development and potential research. As a relatively new service, this role provides a great opportunity to develop both clinical and leadership skills.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for the development and provision of a highly specialist, evidence based dietetic service to the patients treated within the UGI unit at the Churchill Hospital. The caseload will be primarily oesophogogastric (OG) and hepato-pancreato-biliary (HBP) outpatients, pre, peri and post treatment. This involves working as an integral member of both the Dietetic team and the multidisciplinary team to provide a flexible, prioritised service based on clinical need.

Along with the Service Manager, to be responsible for the dietetic service provided to their clinical area and its development

To participate in departmental audits and initiate audit within own clinical area in order to monitor and evaluate whether local/ national standards are being met and make recommendations for change.

To act as a source of expertise for local dietetic, nursing and medical colleagues and nationally regarding the nutritional management of the identified patient group.

Along with the Team Lead to plan annual leave, cover arrangements and other leadership tasks of UGI dietitians and Dietetic Support Worker.

To educate, train and disseminate information to healthcare professionals including clinicians, nurses, AHPs, dietetic colleagues and students about the dietetic management of UGI patients.

Clinically supervise Band Dietitian/s and Band Dietetic Support Worker.
