Senior Designer (Environments) - Contract until Jan 2027
Media Molecule, a multi-award-winning game developer and part of PlayStation Studios, is seeking a talented Senior Designer specializing in environments for a long-term contract (until Jan 2027). Join us in our new studio in Guildford or work hybrid/onsite as preferred.
Responsibilities
1. Help create, uphold, and maintain playable environments that encapsulate the work and resources of multiple teams.
2. Collaborate closely with art, systems, and narrative teams to ensure cohesive integration of game mechanics and storytelling within the world.
3. Design and implement beautiful and engaging environments using in-house and commercial tools.
4. Design and implement innovative gameplay content that enhances player experience and engagement.
5. Create and balance game features to resonate with players and provide rewarding experiences.
6. Develop pipelines and processes for efficient delivery of game environments.
7. Develop and iterate on game design documents with adequate depth and clarity.
8. Playtest and provide feedback on game features to ensure quality and player satisfaction, refining as needed.
Qualifications
1. Significant experience in 3D level / open world game design with at least one shipped title.
2. Strong prototyping skills and experience polishing game mechanics.
3. Deep knowledge of game, level, and world design concepts and practices.
4. Understanding of what makes gameplay compelling and fun.
5. Experience in feature design and excellent documentation skills.
6. Creative, detail-oriented thinker with excellent communication skills and openness to feedback.
7. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
8. Experience with iterative development processes.
