Offer description

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated Midwife Sonographers qualified who are able to independently scan in obstetric ultrasound. You must have a CASE accredited PgC in obstetric ultrasound.

The post holder is one of a team of midwife sonographers, sonographers and midwives and obstetricians who deliver high quality ultrasound care within the maternity unit. The successful candidate will be able to provide a high quality midwifery and ultrasound service, encourage and foster innovation in practice and act as a role model and advocate for women, their families and staff.

The post holder will be required to work as part of the rota to provide an obstetric ultrasound service 7 days a week between 8am and 8pm.


Main duties of the job

To perform and report ultrasound scans and manage ultrasound lists.

To communicate the results of the ultrasound scans to the multi-disciplinary team, where appropriate

Assist with audits and research within the department

To support and develop learning opportunities for junior members of staff from all disciplines

To support the Senior Midwifery team in the on-going development of the maternity and ultrasound services

Work as part of the team who are responsible for the effective and efficient operational management of the ultrasound service within maternity

If registered as a midwife, to maintain clinical midwifery competencies to ensure NMC revalidation

To provide the highest standard of safe, effective and compassionate care through the effective use of evidence based practice in line with agreed local and national standards, including the Fetal Abnormality Screening Programme (FASP) standards and the NMC/HCPC Code.

To provide a continuously improving service in line with the clinical governance framework, Trust objectives, and the NHS performance framework.

To support and continually develop staff to ensure they have the appropriate level of skill, knowledge and competence to meet service/specialty requirements.

Job responsibilities

* To work as part of the ultrasound team performing a comprehensive range of ultrasound examinations without supervision.
* To independently interpret ultrasound images, produce comprehensive clinical reports and communicate information regarding diagnosis directly to referrers and patients in accordance with departmental protocols.
* To support the Ultrasound Services to deliver a first class ultrasound service.
* Contribute to Service Development, Quality Improvements and take an active role in Safecare (Clinical Governance) activities. Support Lead Radiographer in improving quality of service whilst working towards the Imaging Services Accreditation Scheme.
* To contribute towards the efficient deployment of resources enabling patients to receive safe, accurate and timely examinations.
* To prioritise patients and organise workload from a variety of referral pathways to meet the needs of the service.
* To contribute towards finding solutions that will meet the changing demands on the ultrasound service.
* To be competent in the safe use of complex ultrasound equipment.
* To maintain a high standard of patient care and professional conduct.
* To be responsible for the implementation of Trust and Radiology policies and procedures within the ultrasound department.
* To provide services in a manner that supports the Trusts Equality and Diversity ethos.
* To have a flexible approach to work to support trust objectives and departmental plans.
* To contribute towards finding solutions to meet the rapidly changing demands on the ultrasound service.


Person Specification


Qualifications and Training

* Evidence of CPD
* Current NMC or HCPC registration


Skills, Knowledge and Aptitude

* Good interpersonal skills
* Ability to prioritise and manage workload according to clinical needs
* work effectively within a team
* work flexibly within work rosters that meet a 7 day service


Experience

* significant experience working in a hospital
* Experience of working within a Radiology department
